Yeah, it's kinda weird, but one of my favorite things to do is sit in front of a
computer screen, giving myself a headache toiling over lines of code
... and sometimes, I even get paid to do it. I had little programming
experience until I enrolled in the Computer Information Systems program at Herzing
College of Technology. There I was introduced to Visual Basic. By the end of my
second of three semesters of VB I was teaching my instructors new things. I had
classes in Java and C++ and although I did well in those classes, my language of
choice was Visual Basic. I wasn't too keen on the web development classes I
took in college (HTML, DHTML, and Javascript) but when I got a job as a bureau web manager
for the Department of Natural Resources, my interest in web development boomed.
I didn't retain much from the web development classes in college so when I started
developing for the DNR I pretty much had to start re-learning from square one.
It was pretty sad, I barely knew HTML. I quickly caught back on to web development and it became my new love.
While I was in Iraq, I decided to get on the .Net band-wagon. I picked up a few .Net 2.0 books and started reading. It took me a few days to get the
hang of it. The .Net 2.0 books I bought assumed that the reader had a basic
knowledge of .Net 1.0, which I did not have. I had also decided to learn C# so I had to break myself
from the VB rythym and pick up a new coding style. This website is my first
project in ASP.NET 2.0 and I'd say it turned out pretty well.
Here's some of the work I've done:
